The procedures for disconnecting Unit 2 of the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant began on Thursday at 7:00 AM. The reactor's power is being gradually reduced, and around 11:00 AM the plant is expected to stop delivering energy to the National Energy System. Romania will thus lose approximately 680 MW and will rely on imports, especially from Bulgaria, on hydro reserves, and on voluntary reductions in consumption.

Unit 1 of the plant has already been shut down since the end of July. The shutdown of Unit 2 comes against the backdrop of the declining water level of the Danube, which is necessary for cooling the reactors.
