The Romanian Office for Transmedia Audit (BRAT) expresses its disagreement with the current text of Digital Omnibus VII, proposed by the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. BRAT supports the exclusion of the regulation that allows large technology companies to automatically manage user consent for the processing of personal data.

The organization believes that this measure would undermine the direct relationship between publishers and their readers, severely affecting the funding model of online media. BRAT emphasizes the importance of editorial independence and sustainable funding sources, warning that current regulations could diminish publishers' ability to generate revenue. Additionally, BRAT calls for a solid impact assessment of the regulations regarding consent and cookies, to protect the media ecosystem and ensure the financial sustainability of independent journalism. The organization proposes maintaining exceptions for contextual advertising and publishers' control over audience data, which are essential for the economic viability of the press.
