The Administration of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve (ARBDD) in Tulcea issued on Wednesday permits for the dredging of the Băltenii de Jos and Periteașca canals, to facilitate access for the population and fishermen in the activity areas.
The governor of the Reserve, Florin Stăneață, emphasized the importance of constant cleaning of the canals, mentioning that the low water level hinders access for vessels. He also advised tourists and residents to travel with caution to avoid accidents. Regarding the effects of the low Danube level on biodiversity, the governor of the Reserve explained that fish have retreated into the river, making it difficult for both fishermen and ichthyophagous birds to catch them.
ARBDD prohibited the use of nets in the reserve on July 7 due to the water level, but they can be used under certain conditions on the main branches of the Danube.
