The general director of the National Meteorological Administration (ANM), Elena Mateescu, stated that, although the orange code for blizzards and heavy snowfall remains in effect for 12 counties and the municipality of Bucharest, the possibility of issuing a red code warning cannot be excluded.
Mateescu explained that the affected areas are at the upper limit of the wind speed criteria, reaching values of 85 km/h in the counties of Vrancea, Galați, Buzău, Brăila, and Călărași. ANM is closely monitoring the evolution of meteorological phenomena and, if the situation deteriorates, a nowcasting red code warning could be issued, with a lead time of zero to six hours. The orange code came into effect on Tuesday at 8:00 PM.
