The Student Loans Company (SLC) has acknowledged that it has no information about the financial status of over 370,000 graduates, who owe nearly £13 billion.

These graduates include EU students who have returned home and British citizens who have emigrated. Experts warn that this "leak" could affect taxpayers, and MP Rupert Lowe has called for an investigation to verify whether foreign students, especially from Romania, are taking advantage of the system. SLC stated that not all unverified clients are "missing" and that some may be temporarily abroad.

There is also discussion about possible fee reductions for EU students, which could lead to financial losses for British universities.
