Adrian Pleșca, known as Artan, founding member of the bands Timpuri Noi and Partizan, died on Tuesday at the age of 64, following a stroke suffered at the Pantelimon Hospital in Bucharest, medical sources reported.
In recent months, colleagues from Partizan had reported health issues affecting the artist. Condolence messages quickly appeared online, with Trooper's vocalist, Alin Dincă, writing: "Safe travels... The light has gone out." Artan, an emblematic figure of Romanian rock since the 1980s, founded the band Timpuri Noi alongside Răzvan Moldovan and remains a prominent name on the alternative scene.
