An investigation conducted by The Guardian revealed that Google’s AI Overviews provide medical advice without visible safety warnings at first glance, which concerns experts from MIT and Stanford. They emphasize that the absence of these warnings can create significant risks, as users may receive incorrect information without being warned that they should consult a specialist.

Warnings only become visible if users choose to request additional information, being written in a small and light-colored font, which makes them easy to miss. Experts state that this design induces a sense of safety, discouraging users from seeking additional information.

Patient charities are calling for urgent measures to make these warnings more visible, highlighting that misinformation in the health sector can have serious consequences. Google has responded that AI Overviews encourage users to seek a doctor's advice, but criticisms persist regarding the effectiveness and visibility of the warnings.
