Thirteen crew members of the Royad Mammadov are missing, while the captain was injured following a fire that broke out aboard the vessel on Monday, while it was in the Black Sea, outside Romania’s territorial waters. The Romanian Naval Authority was alerted around 11:00 a.m. through the Constanța MRCC regarding the serious maritime incident.
Constanța MRCC requested the intervention of the Romanian Agency for Life-Saving at Sea and the mobilization of several rescue vessels. The SAR APOLLO vessel departed from Sulina, while SAR ARTEMIS was mobilized from Berth 72. The intervention of the SAR ARES vessel was also requested.
According to the initial information provided by the Romanian Naval Authority, the ship’s captain was injured, while 13 crew members have not been found. The intervention and search operations are being coordinated through Constanța MRCC, and the authorities are to determine the exact circumstances in which the fire occurred.
