The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) has announced that Sharon D. Clarke will play the title role in 'Othello', in a production directed by Monique Touko, which reinterprets Shakespeare's tragedy in a future threatened by climate change. The show, which will premiere on February 13, 2027, at the Swan Theatre, focuses on an unauthorized marriage, exploring themes of jealousy, suspicion, and racial, sexual, and class prejudices. Clarke, a three-time Olivier Award winner, makes her debut at the RSC in this role.
Additionally, the RSC has announced other productions for the 2026-27 season, including the world premiere of the play 'Brock’s Mill', directed by Rufus Norris. Furthermore, the RSC will adapt the children's book 'The Bear and the Piano' for young audiences, using puppets and music. The season also includes productions such as 'Game of Thrones: The Mad King' and 'As You Like It', featuring an all-male cast. The RSC will organize tours with 'The Merry Wives of Windsor' in the spring of 2028, visiting regional theatres across England.
