Warner Bros has officially announced that Elijah Wood and Sir Ian McKellen will return to their roles as Frodo and Gandalf in the film 'The Hunt for Gollum', part of the 'The Lord of the Rings' franchise, scheduled for release on December 17, 2027. The production will be directed by Andy Serkis, who portrayed Gollum in the previous films.
Kate Winslet will play the role of Marigol, and Lee Pace will reprise his role as Thranduil. The new film will explore Gollum's quest before the events of 'The Fellowship of the Ring'. Filming is planned to begin in May in New Zealand. Warner Bros is also working on another film in the 'The Lord of the Rings' universe, titled 'Shadows of the Past', produced by Stephen Colbert.
This expansion of the franchise comes after the major success of the previous trilogies, which generated nearly 3 billion dollars and won 17 Academy Awards.
