Director Cristian Mungiu, double winner of the Palme d'Or, warned at the International Theatre Festival in Sibiu that Romania is facing increasing radicalization and violence, emphasizing the need for dialogue based on patience and wisdom. Mungiu mentioned that frequent calls for "national interest" are devoid of substance if they are not supported by the integrity of those who invoke them. He questioned the current morality of Romanian society, wondering if those who discuss national interest can look in the mirror and truly believe they are doing a good job. The director expressed his concern about the legacy we leave to future generations, stating that the current society lacks the structure, organization, and vision necessary. Mungiu recently won his second Palme d'Or, becoming one of only ten directors in history to achieve this feat. The festival brings together over 5,000 artists from 83 countries, offering 848 events until June 29.
