At the auction organized by Christie’s in New York on May 18, a work by Constantin Brâncuși could reach a record price of 100 million dollars. This is part of a selection of 16 masterpieces, including works by renowned artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Mondrian, Miro, Francis Bacon, and Andy Warhol, all coming from the collection of media magnate Samuel Irving Newhouse. Although Christie’s has not provided a public estimate for Brâncuși's sculpture and a painting signed by Jackson Pollock, it is known that Brâncuși's work was purchased in 2002 for 18.2 million dollars, setting a record for the artist at that time. The sculpture, inspired by the muse Margit Pogany, is part of the Danaida series, a theme that Brâncuși explored between 1907 and 1909, initially creating a version in stone. This auction promises to be a landmark event in the art world.
