The sculpture "Danaida" by Constantin Brâncuși was sold for a record sum of 107.6 million dollars at a Christie’s auction in New York, thus becoming the second highest amount ever paid for a sculpture.

The work, created in 1913, represents a bronze head with a brown patina and gold leaf, inspired by Greek mythology and featuring Margit Pogany, the sculptor's muse, as the model. The price obtained exceeds the previous record of 71.2 million dollars, set in 2018 for 'La jeune fille sophistiquée'.

The auction was marked by other record sales, including 'Number 7A, 1948' by Jackson Pollock, sold for 181.2 million dollars, as well as works by Mark Rothko and Joan Miró. Brâncuși thus joins artists sold for 9-figure prices, further solidifying his status in the art world.
