Ilie Bolojan, Romania's Prime Minister, justified the absence of women in the new government by the 'competence criterion', sparking accusations of political misogyny. AUR MEP Georgiana Teodorescu referred the matter to the European Commission, asking for official reactions. Criticism was amplified by the decision of the PNL to exclude the Liberal Women's Organization from the governing Bureau, which was interpreted as a message that women are not considered competent in power structures. Teodorescu emphasized the need for respect and meritocracy for women in Romania.
