The Bolojan government has proposed an ordinance introducing prison sentences of between 2 and 7 years for military, gendarmerie and police officers who hire themselves out as mercenaries in private companies, even after leaving the service. The draft aims to complement existing legislation to prevent unauthorized recruitment in conflict zones, as military personnel have specialized training. This follows investigations which have revealed the involvement of Romanian military personnel in mercenary missions in Congo.
