November 26, the Government of the Republic of Moldova approved the initiation of negotiations for an intergovernmental agreement with Romania, which will allow for visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports. This initiative, proposed by the Romanian side, is necessary to comply with the Schengen acquis, in force from March 31, 2024. The agreement will harmonize the bilateral legal framework with Schengen requirements, facilitating visa-free travel for diplomatic personnel.
Holders of these passports will be able to enter, transit, and remain visa-free in the other country for up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Additionally, members of diplomatic missions will be exempt from visas for the entire duration of the mission, with prior notification of the appointment.
