Directive 2008/96/EC, updated by Directive (EU) 2019/1936, imposes measures for the safety of vulnerable road users. France and Romania have not fully implemented these regulations, which include road safety assessment and improving the visibility of road signs. The European Commission has sent letters of formal notice to both countries, giving them two months to address the deficiencies, otherwise it will issue a reasoned opinion.
