The case of the two Romanian teenagers, accused of attempted rape in Northern Ireland, has concluded with the withdrawal of charges, according to the BBC. The boys, aged 14 and 15, were accused of trying to rape a student in Ballymena on June 7, 2025. The incident sparked protests in the area that later spread.
In a previous hearing, it was mentioned that the girl was dragged down an alley but managed to escape. On Friday, the Belfast Youth Court allowed the prosecution to finalize the criminal proceedings, and the teenagers will be released from the detention center. Another suspect associated with the case is considered a fugitive in Romania.
The spokesperson for the prosecution explained that new evidence led to the conclusion that the test for criminal prosecution is no longer met. The defendants' lawyers did not contest the withdrawal of charges.
