The President of the USA, Donald Trump, clarified that he did not offer a financial safety net to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, contradicting the latter's statements from their meeting at the White House. Orbán had claimed that the USA had agreed to provide Budapest with a "financial shield," but Trump stated that, although Orbán requested help, he promised him nothing. In the context of the political challenges Orbán is facing, including rising opposition and a stagnant economy, the Hungarian leader mentioned that he might turn to international facilities in case of financial difficulties. This statement sparked criticism from the Hungarian opposition, which questioned why Orbán would negotiate a bailout package in secret. However, Trump praised Orbán's measures regarding immigration control. Trump also recently mobilized the Treasury Department to support another ally, Argentine leader Javier Milei, suggesting a broader strategy to support far-right parties in Europe.
