The Houthi rebels in Yemen recently detained three local UN employees, two women and a man, accusing them of espionage in favor of Israel. These arrests come after, on Friday, seven UN employees were detained under the same accusations. Houthi authorities stated that they have a list of wanted individuals for collaborating with Israel and the USA. The UN has confirmed multiple detentions and warned about the risks to its employees, mentioning that 55 employees have been arrested since 2021. These actions have intensified since the beginning of the war in Gaza, and the rebels have attacked ships in the Red Sea, claiming to act in solidarity with the Palestinians. The Houthi leader accused UN employees of involvement in attacks, accusations rejected by the organization.
