The Bulgarian Parliament has adopted a decision to temporarily ban the export and intra-community delivery of petroleum products, especially diesel and aviation fuel, to the member states of the European Union. The measure, supported by 135 votes, was motivated by the need to protect Bulgaria's energy security and the stability of the domestic market, in the context of the sanctions imposed by the USA on the Russian company Lukoil.
The ban will not apply to the fueling of domestic or foreign ships and aircraft, as well as deliveries to the armed forces of EU and NATO member states. The Parliament has designated the competent authorities to oversee compliance with the ban, and the director of the Customs Agency can authorize certain exceptions, with prior notification to the National Assembly. The decision will come into effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette.
