French President Emmanuel Macron presented a new strategy for the spatial defense of France, announcing an additional investment of 4.2 billion euros by 2030, in the context of threats from Russia. In Toulouse, he emphasized the importance of space in current and future conflicts, mentioning challenges such as espionage, GPS signal jamming, and cyberattacks.
Macron proposed the development of reusable European launchers to compete with SpaceX and called for a modification of the European Space Agency's "geographical return" principle to enhance competitiveness. He also highlighted the need to modernize the European Kourou base in French Guiana. Compared to Germany, which has pledged 35 billion euros for spatial defense, France is in a weaker position ahead of the ESA Ministerial Conference in November.
