An investigation was initiated after a firearm was discovered near the Christmas Market in Strasbourg, according to the Republic's prosecutor, Clarisse Taron. The pistol and ammunition were found by green space maintenance agents in bushes, a few steps from the 'Advent Village', located in the historic district of La Petite France.
The Christmas Market recently opened, and the city is expecting a large influx of visitors, considering last year's record of 3.4 million participants. In the context of persistent terrorist threats in France, security during this month-long event is extremely high. The incident serves as a reminder of the 2018 attack, when a jihadist killed five people in the city center.
