The company Sonder, a partner of Marriott, has gone bankrupt, causing the sudden evacuation of guests from hotels in locations such as Boston and Dubai. They returned to their rooms to find their belongings thrown or crammed into plastic bags. Sonder, which was valued at over a billion dollars, filed for Chapter 7 protection after Marriott terminated its license. The collapse came shortly after the company's rebranding under the name Sonder by Marriott Bonvoy, but the integration of booking systems failed, leading to a decline in revenue. Guests were taken by surprise, with some being evacuated even in the middle of their stay, such as a couple from New York who had to quickly find alternative accommodation, spending considerable amounts. They and others reported extremely unpleasant experiences, feeling treated improperly.
