The Deputy Prime Minister Tánczos Barna stated that to increase the life expectancy in Romania, it is essential for Romanians to engage in more sports. During a discussion about sports and public investments, he highlighted that 62% of citizens have never practiced sports, compared to Finland, where 92% of the population is active.
Barna emphasized the need to generate demand for sports and to build adequate infrastructure. He proposed that each county should invest in specific sports, depending on local demand. The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged that many public investments have been made without a clear purpose and stressed the need to change attitudes towards sports among children. Currently, the life expectancy in Romania is 76 years, below the European average of 81 years.
