The Ministry of Commerce of China has announced the suspension of the ban on the approval of exports to the United States of certain dual-use materials, including gallium, germanium, antimony, and superhard materials. These metals are essential for the manufacturing of semiconductors and electronic equipment, being used in microchips, lasers, and solar panels. The suspension takes effect immediately and will be valid until November 27, 2026. The ban had initially been imposed in December 2024, in the context of trade tensions with the U.S. This decision comes after the lifting of other export restrictions, signaling a possible de-escalation of economic relations between the two powers, within the framework of a broader agreement reached between Xi Jinping and Donald Trump.
