A team of researchers from Washington University and Northwestern University has created an innovative nanotherapy that can treat glioblastoma, the most common form of brain cancer, through intranasal administration. This therapy stimulates the antitumor immune response, showing promising results in experiments on mice, where tumors were eliminated after one or two doses. The nanoparticles, designed to activate the STING pathway, are delivered directly into the nasal cavity, effectively reaching the brain without the need for invasive surgical interventions.

Studies have shown that the particles concentrate in the tumor area and activate immune cells, reducing the risk of systemic adverse reactions. Combining intranasal therapy with drugs that stimulate T lymphocytes has led to remarkable results, providing long-term protection against recurrence. Although the results are promising, nanotherapy is not yet approved for clinical use in humans and requires further studies to assess safety and efficacy. This innovation could open new avenues for more effective and better-tolerated treatments in the fight against brain cancer.
