The National Trade Union Bloc (BNS) has requested the Prime Minister of Romania to dismiss Mihai Barbu from the position of president of the Railway Reform Authority (ARF), after DNA prosecutors conducted searches in a case concerning suspicions of influence peddling, blackmail, and bribery. Trade unionists argue that Barbu's retention in this essential position for the modernization of the railway system affects the integrity and credibility of procurement and investment processes. Barbu is suspected of having exerted pressure for the removal of the director of the Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Directorate (DSVSA) Vaslui. BNS emphasizes that, although it does not contest Barbu's guilt, public administration ethics standards impose firm measures in the face of serious suspicions. The authority led by Barbu manages strategic projects, including those funded by European funds, and any suspicion can affect their implementation and Romania's image.
